All Change
After a period of relative inactivity, team Scuppernong have returned with results, firings and hirings.
On day 75 the team manager, Joe, sent a very strong team to France to race in the Critérium La Provence, with captain Goodrich backed up by five very capable team mates. He returned victorious and won team Scuppernong's first ever classic after many seasons trying, acheiving something that neither Vancleave or Woodson could. It is arguably the teams finest victory, showing what a strong team they had.
However two riders in that team, Paul Grey and Adler Talcott have since departed making way for some younger riders.
Adler Talcott has been with the team for the past five seasons after arriving from Gradient Levellers fully trained for 190k. He initially led the team but fell back to team mate with the development of Goodrich. During this time he has been a role model for the younger riders and acheived eight results. He has worked tirelesly as a team mate but a victory in a ranked race elluded him. He has since moved on to belgium outfit Lyra. On Leaving he commented, "I have had a wonderful time at the team who were in turmoil when I first arrived but left on a high after helping Goodrich win his classic. I like to think I have played a small part."
Paul Grey has been with the team for almost all of his career. He arrived after only becoming professional two months previously, but Joe saw potential in him and he was trained to be one of the best downhillers in the World at the time. His first few seasons yielded little reward but his first result came in season 12 where he finished runner up in the division 1 race-Andorra Redonda. He spent much of this time as Woodson's team-mate but following Truman's firing, he captained more races and with the development of the squad, was able to lead a second team. Whilst most of his results came in the second division he was still able to hold his own later in his career in the top division, where his experience gave him an edge. His most successful season was the 16th, where he ranked 97th in the world, but he left Scupperong ranked just outside of the top 100. Overall he acheived 15 results including six wins. On leaving Joe said, "He has been a true servant to the team and one of the best riders this team has ever had, both in terms of results and his ability as a team mate."
Following these two sales, Will Geiger has been bought in from Team Washo for a team record. Tobias Folsom has also been bought and has already entered scuppernong's reknowned climbing school. There are also rumours of another deal to bring an English climber into the team which could materilise over the next couple of weeks.
Overall, it has been a time of change for Scuppernong, with the previous batch of riders ending on a high with a victory in a classic. Time will tell as to whether these changes can result in another classic win.
